Energy Policy Insanity

I want to take a few moments to rant about energy policy in the US. Why are we so dependent on foreign oil?

In the Jimmy Carter era a grand long term energy policy based on conservation, energy efficiency and independence from foreign oil was put in place. Subsequent shortsighted administrations dismantled what with hindsight was a rather brilliant approach.

Now that China is developing and becoming a large energy user prices for oil will not be going down. Is this obvious to only me?

The Bush energy policy that has just been put in place is a joke. It gives billions to oil companies in hopes they will produce more oil. However, the energy companies are not forced to do this. Instead it is far more profitable to constrain the supply, drive up the price and insure a steady long term stream of growing profits. I would do the same thing if I owned an oil company. And by the way where do think the Bush interests lie. That's right his family is heavily invested in the Oil Industry and yes his family will make millions with this new energy policy.

So - next time when you have a say in energy policy - vote for someone who supports conservation, energy efficiency and independence from foreign oil. You will benefit while Bush and the rest of the Oil company millionaires will lose a few bucks!

  • Mike,
Who are you kidding? Vote for someone who is for conservation, efficiecy, and alternative fuel sources? That sounds good but where are they? Al Gore is up to his eyeballs in oil. Ever heard of Occidental Petroleum?
Or maybe John effin Kerry who'ssays hes for the little guy, the working man" and has 6 mansions and his wifes company has factories outside the U.S. to avoid the laws he legislates and he decries companies like hers. My whole point on all these blogs is they are all the same. Democrat Republican, all the same. We have to look for alternative politicians, it is the only way to acheive conservation, alternative fuels and efficiency.

  • Whaler makes some great points! This dude is (I assume) is on to something. America needs a viable third party. But, who will lead and what is their platform? Blogs can help solve these problems.
