Energy Policy Insanity

I want to take a few moments to rant about energy policy in the US. Why are we so dependent on foreign oil?

In the Jimmy Carter era a grand long term energy policy based on conservation, energy efficiency and independence from foreign oil was put in place. Subsequent shortsighted administrations dismantled what with hindsight was a rather brilliant approach.

Now that China is developing and becoming a large energy user prices for oil will not be going down. Is this obvious to only me?

The Bush energy policy that has just been put in place is a joke. It gives billions to oil companies in hopes they will produce more oil. However, the energy companies are not forced to do this. Instead it is far more profitable to constrain the supply, drive up the price and insure a steady long term stream of growing profits. I would do the same thing if I owned an oil company. And by the way where do think the Bush interests lie. That's right his family is heavily invested in the Oil Industry and yes his family will make millions with this new energy policy.

So - next time when you have a say in energy policy - vote for someone who supports conservation, energy efficiency and independence from foreign oil. You will benefit while Bush and the rest of the Oil company millionaires will lose a few bucks!

What is the New Progressive Platform?

Whaler cuts to the heart of the challenge progressives - Democrats & Independents face today. It is no challenge to pick on Bush & Co. It is far more difficult and more rewarding to offer an intelligent and coherent vision that will HELP AMERICA WIN.

There are too many issues that are not being addressed, or are being addressed inadequately.
These issues include the the national debt, declining international educational competitiveness, bankrupt corporations, lost pensions, trade deficits, homeland security & disaster response inadequacies, unemployment, poverty, malnutrition, homelessness, inadequate healthcare, starvation, genocide in Africa, preventable diseases & the melting planet,.
Faced with all of these challenges the response from those in power is tax cuts for the richest Americans, with promise of more to come.

What is a modern progressive to do? The first thing that needs to be done is to define what they stand for and deliver their message more effectively than the Radical Right has. Trying to make everyone happy & not offending anyone & just blaming the other guy is not the answer.

America needs leaders who have intelligent answers & work hard to solve national problems & help us win in the global economy.

Re: How Did We Get Here?

On 9/16/05 Whaler responded to Susan J. How do you think we got here?

"I think we ended up here because of lack of leadership in the progressive party. You can't articulate a message when you really don't have one. Except for being against everything. People want leaders who do things that aren't popular, but are good for the future of America. John Kerry is the perfect example, we can tell you what he's against but who could say what he stood for?

Beside the party line rhetoric that has to be said year in and year out even though nothing is ever done about any of the so called progressive core values. I really think America is fed up with progressives being against everything whether its good for America or not and not coming up with solutions of their own.

Its easy to just say "get the troops out of Iraq" but most Americans know that it is not realistic to do that at this point. Hell we're not even out of the former Yugoslavia yet, progressives must pick their fights better, or else it comes off as whining.

The main thing is there has to be a clear message not one from the far left and one from the middle it has to be either or, and not be afraid to state it."

How Did We Get Here?

On Sept. 2nd - Susan J. sent the following perspective to QuestionItNow.com Any thoughts?

"How did we get here?

The conservative coalition has been working on their program in a very quiet, non-violent, non-provocative way. Now they have elected a president to represent their views. If you don't like that, you should learn from them and do the same, only better.

Over 20 years ago, the conservatives decided that bombing abortion clinics was counterproductive. Electing officials and judges that would close the clinics became the new goal.

Over the past 20 years the conservatives have acquired ever-increasing levels of responsibility. They took control one little piece at a time. Always smiling...always shaking your hand."
